Puerto Edén
Description
It's the last town between Puerto Montt and Puerto Natales, Puerto Eden is located in Wellington island, therefore, is only possible to get there by water from Punta Arenas or from Puerto Natales. It's right on the way to Puerto Natales, so it is only possible to disembark when the climate conditions allow it.
It is right in the middle of the Bernardo O'Higgins National Park, where the beautiful scenery can only be believed and understood if it is seen personally.
It is a small and isolated town, of barely 250 people living there all year, 15 of them are the last members of Kawescar or Alacalufe descent, the native people of this region. Today, Puerto Eden survives to protect this ethnic group, which was driven to this small place of land after the conquerors arrived in the 1930s.
Because of its isolation and distance, Puerto Eden is a real paradise to practice a more adventurous type of tourism. It has mountains, canals and millenary ice floes, where it is possible to fish, ride on a canoe and get to know the culture of this small place, which has been able to exist far away from all things modern and technological. In fact, in Puerto Eden there is only one working telephone, and it only works between 10 am and 1 pm, every day.
