Accesses

The trip to Patagonia is very long, and it can be done by air, land or water. To cover more territory, it is recommended to choose one way to travel there but another to go back, if it is possible.

By Air:

From Santiago, there are daily flights leaving to Puerto Montt, Coyhaique and Punta Arenas. In Southern Patagonia, there are smaller airports in cities like Chaiten, Futaleufu, Balmaceda, Puerto Williams and the Antarctica, though the access to the white continent is made only by water.

By Land:

It is possible to get there driving down the Carretera Austral, which connects the rest of the country with the Southern Patagonia. The road finished when you reach Puerto Montt, due to geographical conditions, so it is necessary to cross to Argentinean territory to continue the journey south. For that, there are several frontier passages, the most important ones are Monte Aymond, Casas Viejas, Dorotea, Ro Don Guillermo and San Sebastin in Tierra del Fuego.

By Water:

Ships and cruises leaven from Puerto Montt to the Torres del Paine and the islands where visitors are allowed to go. From there, you can also travel to places like Hornopiten, Puerto Eden and Puerto Natales. Another point of boarding is Puerto Chacabuco, the main pier in the region, where the shipping companies that travel to Southern Patagonia make connections. Even further South, in Puerto Williams, ships and cruises leave to Ultima Esperanza and Antarctica.
